The Vatican II document, Declaration on Christian Education states that parents are the first and foremost educators of their children, and that “their role as educators is so decisive that scarcely anything can compensate for their failure in it.” Likewise, Pope John Paul II’s Apostolic Exhortation on the family, Familiaris Consortio, states that, “the right and duty of the parents to give education is essential…irreplaceable and inalienable and therefore incapable of being entirely delegated to others or usurped by others.”
In acknowledging these truths, the St. Lawrence Faith Formation Program seeks to assist and encourage parents in this venerable responsibility bestowed on them. In particular, our primary goal is to provide a framework in the areas concerning religious education that will specifically complement the Catholic Christian formation that is already being taught and experienced in the home. Our environment and curriculum is designed to support, enhance and develop the spiritual, intellectual and moral education already being fostered in the home and experienced in the Liturgy.
We consider this opportunity to cooperate with and serve the families of the St. Lawrence Parish community to be a joy and a privilege and pray that the Holy Spirit will guide and protect us in this sublime endeavor.
